brother can you spare a bank card

there's a fabulous exhibition at the vancouver art gallery right now so i call up a friend and make arrangements to go. i've spent so much time in my car lately, i'm more than a little concerned about la capacite de plier mon gluteus minimus, mou comme ils sont,
these ones... only girls'
very important for this,

so i dig down to the bottom of my purse, pocket $25.75, and head for the seabus.

the fare is $2.25, i have a pass for the gallery, that should be plenty.
what would i know though. i never do this. i'm a bank card girl. i get to the gallery to discover i've brought the wrong pass. i don't have enough in my pocket to pay for a day pass so plans change.

a friend is in a play down on granville island so i head for the bus. i've spent $2.25, will need another $2.25 for the bus, $15.00 for a ticket, and $2.25 to get home again, which leaves $4.00 for a shot of JD during intermission.

i never normally pay much attention to what i spend in a day. swipe, tap, tap, tap, tap, ok thanks, bye... i'd completely lost touch with what it cost to live in a city like vancouver. i didn't even do anything all that extravagant. no food, no shopping for clothes, no portion of rent was paid... I spent $25.75 on fluff.
that would take a person making minimum wage more than three hours to be able to afford that luxury.
a friend cooked me dinner that night and i found myself eating a little slower, and enjoying it so much more.

moot or hooey?
the fraser institute claims that raising the minimum wage will only hurt the poor. direct cash subsidies would be a much more effective way to help the poor.
